This site was developed to present unbiased information about developments in building technology, critical product reviews, energy performance design and building tips, practical research reports, regulations and many links to other resources. The site is designed to keep you up-to-date on the latest progress in designing and building homes that save both energy and up-front costs, while providing comfort, health, sustainability, durability and affordability for the homeowner.
This guide, created by the Arkansas Energy Office, provides energy-saving ideas for builders, developers, architects and do-it-yourself homeowners. The guide follows home construction from the foundation to completion offering suggestions, options and installation details, with lots of "how to" photos, to effectively improve energy performance in new construction without incurring additional up-front costs to the builder. Additional information is provided on topics such as the importance of proper sizing of heating and cooling equipment, efficient lighting and appliances. The guide, which won a national award from the U.S. Department of Energy in July 2001, was conceived and developed from an in-field study on energy performance of new home construction in Arkansas.
