The Energy Performance Evaluation of New Home Construction conducted in 1991-2000 found very few slabs that were insulated, and of those, even fewer that applied the insulation effectively. Slab insulation saves from 20 percent to 40 percent of wintertime heating costs in all parts of the state. Without perimeter slab insulation, energy efficiency and comfort may be reduced, increasing overall energy cost. Homes built in the northwest part of the state save the most because the of the cooler wintertime climate.
Although slab insulation is cost effective and can be relatively easy, it is important to ask your local pest control contractor for an approved method before considering slab insulation.
