If you're like most Arkansans, energy costs are a large portion of your budget. In fact, the average annual utility costs for an Arkansas household are about $1900 per year (see pie chart). This is spent on heating, cooling, water heating, refrigerators, and appliances and lights.

Energy costs can be reduced, without sacrificing comfort, through basic energy efficiency and conservation measures, many of which cost little or nothing. Other energy-efficiency improvements may cost several hundred dollars, but they typically pay for themselves in the form of energy savings within a few years.
